the royal ottoman palace, occupied from the 1460s-1850s
apart from hagia sophia and perhaps, galata bridge, this is my #3 recommendation for iconic destinations to visit.
Notes:
for topkapi palace, i decided to draw a view from within the harem — of a narrow hallway, lined with ornate blue tiles, a pathway showing doors that lead to more doors. for me, this is the feeling of topkapi - an internested structure that extends from its showycourtyard gardens to its most private harems.
the architecture and design of this palace is something I want to learn about more. the word that comes to mind is “labyrinth.”
I think about designing a website experience like topkapi palace — what would that look like??? how many secret passageways and doors, and corridors? what would you click on?
