solitude on a desert beach

mood of the day: solitude on a desert beach, remembering how it is possible to be not (physically) alone, yet still very lonely — and how true aloneness feels sometimes like a salve. the true salve, whereas intimacy for the sake of comfort and body hunger is just a bandaid for those mysterious wounds of the psyche. i was never afraid to be alone - i wear solitude on my skin better than most other clothes. but then, year after year, i got so used to the embraces of (incompetent) men, i forgot what living in my own skin felt like.
