obsession song: epefte vathia siopi

this is my obsession song of the week. it evokes ancient memories in me — ones I didn’t know I had, and takes me to a secret, mythical place; somewhere between light and dark: where the sun drenches the land and citruses hang ripe from trees and the water is glittering and deep. it carries the ethos of something mysterious and epic — which is how I felt about Athens, when I visited last year. I could feel the blood of that place. I can feel it in this song.

Lyrics translated from here

Harsh silence was reigning

over our old forest.

"Run and I'll catch you"

is what you had first told me.

And when the rain was squeaking

on the fallen leaves,

how many goosebumps

were into the soul.

Yellow bitter wine,

yellow moon,

the soldiers were leaving,

so were you.

And you had within the eyes

a dark fadeness,

a dark... as if

the night were coming by.

Such a red bruise

which doesn't seem to heal,

is the small plain church

next to the fountain.

And a yellow silence

into our old forest.

How can I forget you,

for the earth took you away ?
