it’s not so much that the city is especially technologically advanced nor efficient; but mostly that it felt like a fast, well-connected machine — each singular piece as functional, discrete parts of a whole. each street corner appeared as a dot on a gridded world, and thus, the entire place felt like a circuit board. I could feel the electricity carrying my body forwards, in constant propulsion, up staircases, down subway lines, along the underground world of rats. I felt myself doing a dance of nyc-speed life, and it was, shall i say, comforting.
