anxiety feels like being slowly eaten alive

anxiety feels like being attacked by flesh-eating birds - while you are the one inside the birdcage. always trapped. breathing, but just barely. looming in the distance is always a sense of terror - that the ground will slip from beneath your feet; that something bad will happen, is happening, and there is nothing you can do about it.

from my experience, massive anxiety is usually a warning - that something is very, very wrong with the picture. i slowly learn to trust my anxiety, rather than to reject it, control it, deny it, dismiss it.
