CREATIVE PRACTICES > VISUAL PLAY CAMP

visual play camp

an internet friend said to me,
I’d really like to:

trust my intuitive seeing eye
be unafraid of drawing or creating
let go of inhibition & paralysis
disassociate the fear
be more confident in my creativity
explore, play, and experiment
move from consumption to creation
soak in a drizzle of inspiration
see the world as my museum
my inspiration
…my oyster.

but how do I even start?

dear creative friend, I made this for you.

art is not something that just “happened” to me. I spent years and years cultivating a daily creative practice, building a body of work like a sacred practice — until I felt rich inside. I set aside time everyday to draw what I saw, felt, and imagined — whatever the external world touched inside of me — I drew it.

I didn’t question if I was right, or wrong, or bad at XYZ. I worked with whatever skills I had, focused on listening intently to my inner world; digesting my life through creating.

over time, this honed the sensitivity of my eye, and the dexterity of my hands. but it also gave me the greatest gift I could’ve ever imagined — and it’s NOT technical skills, or how to use X program, or how to get acceptance/validation on Instagram, artist residencies, MFAs, etc, etc. (none of that matters, in the end).

what I gained was
a deep sense of trust
in my own vision,
the power to create
an entire world
with my eyes and hands,
and to share that
world with others.

to me, art is not about execution (we have AI for that) — ART IS ABOUT THE PROCESS OF SEEING (ourselves, the world outside, the world in our heads) — and the confidence to distill and share what we see.

we live in a world designed to keep us in consumption mode.

to consciously create is an act of rebellion — of deep intuition, presence, and magic. it is a play-meditation — a way of making the world you live in more infused with beauty, possibility, and wonder.

when you have that trust in your own vision, it is like having a superpower. you can create anything you want with it: a painting, a book, a business, a new life.

this is what I want to teach you.

I want to help you inhabit the ways of being and expressing that can help you form your own visual universe — which you can then share with the world.

[philosophy of an experience]

why visual play camp?

the best way to dive into creation — no matter where you’re starting from - is to treat it as an act of play, discovery, and active exploration. in order to expand and grow, the process must be fun, supportive, and pleasure-filled — even when it’s really hard. so, I decided to call this program “VISUAL PLAY CAMP” to honor this ethos

VISUAL
as essential toolkit for relating to the world
(because “seeing comes before words”)

PLAY
as our ethos for HOW we will approach the work — with curiosity and openness, because play is the antidote to fear and overthinking.

CAMP
as a safe space for exploration of “the wilderness” (your own inner/outer environment), with containers, support, and guidance.

[a magical spell to begin]

[1]

the intention

A vision for you

  • to discover ways of seeing YOUR world; your thoughts, experiences, feelings, and inklings — and to find fluidity and ease in translating that into visual expressions.

  • to unblock FEAR and PARALYSIS keeping you from creating — and to grow your confidence in your own intuitive eye

  • to play with new forms and creative mediums — in an exploratory, anti-perfectionistic, organic way

  • to expand your visual skills/toolkit — via both practical + imaginative applications of creative elements

  • to connect more deeply to your own life, to collect inspiration from your environment, and day-to-day

  • to build your creative practice, and grow a wealth of your body of work — that you can then share on the internet

[2]

an invitation

who this is for

  • don’t come if you ONLY want to learn how to draw. this is not a class about execution of skill, but an expansive way of visual expression + possibility.

  • come if you want to learn the skills and process to build your visual universe.

  • come if you want to learn how to expand your vision, and nurture the confidence to translate what you see — into visual forms

  • come if you want to build power and freedom via a creative/visual practice which will nourish your world, your projects, your (current or future) business — for the rest of your life.

  • come if you want to dive into your creative process in a supported way, and rebirth your relationship to inspiration

  • come if you want to discover your kaleidoscopic lens — your perspective, your truth, your essence - as an ever-evolving, expansive entity

why make visual things?
(let’s call it art!)

dear creative friend,

if you’re reading this, I think you know that magnetic pull I’m talking about; the whispering voice urging you to create more - despite a world designed to keep you in consumption mode.

I’ve taken a lot of art and design courses in my life — I’ve absorbed a lot, practiced a lot, but while those classes gave me visual execution tools and taught me the HOW — they didn’t nurture me to find my own voice, lean into my WHY, or my WHAT. as in:

what is worth seeing?
what is worth making art for?
how do I integrate my art into the rest of my life?

I answered those questions slowly — through many years of my own experimentation and practice. you will need to answer those questions yourself, FOR yourself — your core motivation and philosophy for YOUR creative practice. my wish is that this program can be a supportive resource for you, along the way.

*

process is my power
vision is my magic
intuition is my guiding force
practices are my framework
art is a byproduct of
my extreme presence
with beauty and truth,
my way of creating my
experience of the world.

…what about you?
