the strength of a lotus flower | tattoo concept

i have this vision of myself becoming a tattoo artist - based in istanbul - within one year. i’m not sure exactly where this vision came from - it is just an urge to make art for the body, to use the body as canvas, to make a mark of significance which doesn’t leave - until the vessel does.

i have no tattoos. (is it possible to give yourself a tattoo?) i will find out. giving myself a tattoo would feel right to me.

the strength of a lotus flower

this sketch above is a brief drawing i did based on an vision i had of my first tattoo. it came to me a few days ago.

the lotus flower is the flower of my hometown - when i see lotus imagery elsewhere, they all feel like a fake. there is something about the strength of a flower which grows in water, not earth - which must ground itself in constant motion and movement and its changing flows.

most tattoos of lotus flowers are just of the flower. but do you know that the entire lotus has significance, and meaning - and uses? in my hometown, we eat lotus root as a dessert. drink lotus starch as a soup, with osthmanus blossoms.

this is an early sketch. i’m curious to see how i’ll evolve it over time, until it’s ready to go on a body - probably my own.
