ortaköy | istanbul travel deck, card no. 1

Istanbul

I’ve been working on a new travel/art project — beginning with a deck of cards to capture all of my favorite places in Istanbul — the places that I take my visitors and friends to, again and again.

my first card of the series is Ortaköy, a nostalgic neighborhood by the Bosphorus, known as a place in which you eat kumpir — a stuffed potato dish — next to a beautiful, Ottoman era mosque.

I’m super excited about this project, in that it’s a modular, tarot-card like alternative of the traditional travel guide. afterall, we don’t experience cities like books, read front to back, but in non-linear, meandering, wandering forms.
