love poem for a rose & a jacket
after you left
i smelled you again —
in the air: your absence
a presence in my room.
i didn’t search
for the source
of your scent (i found it later)
but i held you
in sunlight
blind in my hands,
thinking:
how spring is
starting and
blue sky kindness
and i could just
lay my life in bed
to simply
look at you
instead i make
my lips red
walk the city
drunk in your arms
all my smiles
in sunlight
are for you.
