i woke up in a peaceful place, alone with the elements, where i only hear the sea and myself breathing. time is slow here. i measure it by how light changes over the sea, how clouds move — i go swimming for the first time in the glittering aegean sea, and it is not how i had always imagined it would be, though just as beautiful. perhaps more fitting. i did not know it would be autumn, my heart so dark, the waters so cold. i wanted to swim here alone, and i did. is this what i was preparing for, all summer…?
