a brief note on autumn in istanbul

autumn in istanbul is moody; wet but not cold. it’s drizzly and cloudy on most days, with very brief interludes of sun, scattered into the month. the bosphorous takes on a darker, deeper blue. most of the city settles into a haze, like being in a steam room with the lights dimmed low - except it’s neither hot, nor quite cold, yet.

the thing i like about istanbul is how balanced its four seasons are:

winter is slow motion
autumn is moody
spring is a party
summer is pure chaos

now that i’ve lived through all four seasons, and experienced how even my apartment changes each season, i feel as though i should be better equipped for the next turn around the sun. that being said, i’m not sure i’m suited to acclimatization to a new country, in this way. i feel weighed down by time. perhaps i’m a seasonal creature, and need to move worlds each season, like a bird, or a butterfly.
